DIY Dream Board

Summer is here! Besides awesome beach trips and spending more time with loved ones, the one thing I look forward to the most is DIY projects. Being a full-time college student means little to no free time, but now I have all the time in the world (well, not really but you get the point).

I found this awesome project by MadeByGirl and fell in love! I hope you'll enjoy making it as much as I did :)

Pin the things that inspire you, hang it (or just let it sit like I did) and let the dreaming begin!

Supplies: Frame, unframed corkboard, fabric, spray paint, glue, scissors and an iron

Step 1: Spray paint your frame.

Some of you might choose to keep your frame as is, and that's perfectly fine. I bought my frame at Michaels for about $35 and used Krylon's Webbing Spray in white. You can find this spray at Pearl for about $5.

Step 2: Iron the fabric.

Step 3: Cut the fabric accordingly. Make sure the fabric reaches at leas 1" past the edge of the corkboard. Run a semi-thick amount of glue along the edge of the corkboard and all over the interior.

Smooth out the fabric so you don't leave any lumps.

Step 4: Once the corkborad is dry and ready, simply pop it into the frame.

The original instructions for this project were a little too complicated for me (amateur, I know), so my board isn't as fancy as the link I provided above because the back of my frame doesn't have a cover. Since the back isn't visible, because the board is placed against my wall, it doesn't really bother me :)

If you have any questions feel free to comment below!

The Fighter

Many of you have read my Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr posts regarding my Aunt Laura. I thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

At age 56, she fought a long and trying battle with cancer. And although it hurt to see her leave, I strongly believe she was ready.

Cancer wasn't her only battle. My Aunt overcame poverty to become a professional dentist in Mexico City, she also raised a daughter all on her own, but what I loved most about my Aunty was her sense of humor.

I remember an old friend once asked her how she was doing and she replied with "Oh, I'm fine. I just have cancer." It's not easy to find humor in that response but if you knew my Aunt, you'd laugh too.

I'm really going to miss her, but I'm sure I'll see her in heaven. Cancer might have won this battle, but Jesus already won the most important one.

Many of you might be going through a similar situation or know someone who is/has. I encourage you to live with hope and keep on fighting!

Breathe In, Breathe Out

It's only the first week of school, and I'm already stressed out! (Duh, Pris you're taking 18 units!)

Strangely, I enjoy being stressed out and if I'm not busy every second of the day, I feel like I'm wasting time.

I have many responsibilities on my plate, as I'm sure many of you do, but I like it that way. I guess I'm what you call a workaholic/overachiever. I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, but I'm sure many of you can relate.

College students are not given enough credit. We juggle so many things at once: relationships, school, work, extra curricular activities and somewhere in between all of that we manage to have a social life (hopefully outside of Twitter and Facebook). I think we all deserve some sort of plaque.

This isn't a post asking for sympathy. I'm simply asking all of the stressed, sleepless and over achieving folks to take 15-30 minutes out of their day and just BREATHE

Do something for yourself. Something that makes you happy. You can read (non related coursework, please!), exercise, take a nap or simply sit and enjoy doing nothing.

I promise that if you give yourself this amount of time each day, life will be a little easier.

All of your handwork is going to pay off, I promise. Keep up the good work, and remember to give yourself a break every once in a while...

Pris

Worth the Fight

I was originally starting this blog post with, "How many of you are in a relationship?" (Er, I kind of just did), until I realized what a silly question that is.

I mean who isn't in some type of relationship! Right?

Well, not too long ago I came upon a quote by one of my favorite authors:

“Nothing that’s worthwhile is ever easy." -Nicholas Sparks

Those words couldn't be more true.

Even the best relationships have bad days, whether it be with your mom, brother, best friend, girlfriend, boss or even with God! All relationships get messybut that's what makes them real.

Things can and will get ugly. Is that a reason to give up?

I'm sure a few relationships came to mind when you read this. Think about how much they're worth before you throw in the towel.

And remember, all good things require time and effort.

I Don't Want to be the Captain of My Destiny

Have you ever had trouble sleeping because the infamous "Who am I?" and "What is my purpose?" questions circle and bounce around your head? Well, I have.

It might be surprising to those who know me personally because I've always been the type who knows what she's doing, when I'm doing it and why. I guess we all have our moments.

I thought I had my whole life planned out, but lately I've wondered if my plans fit what God wants for me.

I don't want to be the captain of my destiny. I want God to be in command.

I know that as a Christian my mission is to bring people to Christ. Well, I want everything I do and everything I am to tailor that mandate, including my career.

It might take some time for me to figure it all out, but I trust in the Lord.

As for now, I'll continue working hard and praying fervently.

I leave you all with this quote: “Though we may not be able to see His purpose or His plan, the Lord of heaven is on his throne and in firm control of the universe and our lives.” -Max Lucado

Welcome to the World, Beautiful!

Today is surely one to remember. My baby niece, Izabella, was born today at 10:10 a.m. Words cannot describe the joy my heart feels. Bella is healthy, beautiful, alive and just so perfect. Due to my busy schedule this fall, I didn't spend a lot of time with my sister during her pregnancy and I really regret not going the extra mile to cater her needs/wants. God knows I didn't have the time. I plan, however, to be a better sister and naturally become the best aunt this beautiful baby girl could ever dream of. I pray that God keeps her safe and she may walk by His side forever. Thank you to all who prayed for my Bella. God bless you. Good night, XO!
